It’s true, times are changing and they’re changing fast!
In the chaotic mess that is the business world at the moment, it’s hard to see the wood for the trees. It’s been a tough road for everyone, with many businesses closing their doors and others pulling down the shutters, desperate to ride out the storm.
So, what marketing challenges are businesses facing right now, and how do we “ride out the storm”?
We’ve spoken with our clients, suppliers, and associates in the marketing industry and discovered 3 key challenges that businesses are facing:
1. Strategising for an uncertain future
Not knowing what the future holds makes it incredibly difficult to create and adapt a marketing strategy. To overcome this, think about what you DO know. Will your business bounce back? Will you keep more of your services online? Do you already know you won’t reopen a physical location?
By focusing on the things you do know, and creating a strategy around those elements, will allow you to push your business forward in a positive way. It will also give you the flexibility to adapt your plans as more information becomes available.
2. Managing changing priorities
I think we’ve all realised that sometimes our priorities in business have to change, and they have to change fast. Whilst it’s great that most can think outside the box and change quickly, it can make marketing more difficult and it certainly calls for a change in strategy.
You will likely have found big projects have been put on hold and you will certainly have seen that the expos and business shows you had planned to showcase at, have been moved, or cancelled completely.
But all is not lost! The big projects may be able to be moved online. You may not have to scrap everything you’ve worked on marketing-wise; take your ideas and adapt them to suit a more virtual business world. For the most part, if there was a need for your services before, they will still be needed now. You just need to find an alternative way to offer them.
3. Changing budgets
Pre-crisis, most people had set budgets for marketing and ploughed as much as they could into growing their businesses. Since lockdown, budgets have dropped but the need for attracting new clients has increased.
Small tweaks in strategy can make a big difference to your inbound lead generation and brand awareness. It’s about knowing where and how to invest in your marketing activity. Small budgets can still do a lot for lead generation and deliver the new leads that you need to continue growing.
