Video may be taking over the digital space, and Google is making leaps and bounds in how it judges video content. We can’t ignore the fact that writing isn’t dead.
Copywriting is an art form that is still in high demand. Those videos we are all consuming like air have had some form of a script written. The minute few may be able to talk about a topic on the fly, but for most a script will help with consistency. Being able to speak concisely and without pause will help make your videos appear more polished and professional.
While Google is making huge strides in how its algorithm views and processes content, it still trawls through websites and uses the copy to pass judgment. Those titles and descriptions help provide a clear picture of what your website is about.
People still read
People still read blogs. Simple fact, moving beyond physical magazines the world has taken a digital approach. The pandemic put astronomical speed boosters on forcing businesses online. Companies now need to educate their clients online and blogs are the easiest way to share information (it’s a great way to gain some backlinks too 😉 )
Beyond the blog
Beyond blog writing, there are many other times where you will be required to write. Social media, while it looks all fun and games, there still needs to be some text in your post. Writing for social media is a whole different ball game and you need to step up to the plate if you want to bat in the big league. Social media is about being social as well as delivering some great content that tells your ideal client who you are and what you do. Not as easy as it sounds right? That’s because writing is a skill not everyone possesses or is even willing to learn. Those who are killing it on social media know what they are doing. They know how to spin a story that makes you invested, and that is good writing.
Google LOVES content
We all know the saying that content is king, and it’s still true. Google loves trawling through rich content that gives the reader valuable information (basically answers all their questions and then some). The more detail you can provide your clients the better your chances are of ranking well, as long as it’s all relevant Google will eat it up. Keeping your website up to date with fresh relevant content informs Google that you’re active and in business. So update those old blogs, refresh those web pages and give your readers something they can sink their teeth into (metaphorically of course).
Writing isn’t a miracle
Writing is something that not everyone can do, so when someone is good at it, it seems almost transcendent. Don’t get me wrong, when you read something that just hits the spot it does feel like a miracle. But it doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time to curate that content, time to build up that skill, and time for Google to rank you. Getting something written and out into the digital world in less than a few hours and finding it ranking the next day isn’t going to happen. We all wish it would, but it takes time, so don’t expect that one piece of content to magically find its way to the top spot in days and suddenly be rolling in leads. Good marketing, no great marketing is about that long game. Long (valuable) content, long-tail keywords (the content will write itself with those), and time investment.
The written word isn’t dead, the font has simply changed.
PS: If you got this far then you just proved my point.
